Stolen

If the person or people who stole my lovely bench and coffee table from the caravan park, would like to to get in touch then I will give them the cushion that goes with the bench as it is obviously no longer of any use to me  :(

I am disabled and got a lot of pleasure sitting out on my bench so I hope that makes you feel good! - Of course, I forgot people like you don't have a conscience! It's a sad day when you have to practically chain, bolt or padlock your belongings in order to prevent their theft.

FYI the bench was a 2 seater bench with a lovely rose carved out on the back of it and it has a little repair job to the right hand side arm. The small coffee table is wooden with cross gate legs (approx 18" wide) with the name Pagoda on it.

As someone who was brought up on the Gareloch with many happy memories of my childhood and now living in New Zealand I find it sad to hear of your loss. I do hope you had your letter published in the local paper as we would probably do in NZ.

Thanks Macbill. As a child I spent many months at a time at the house that was known then as Mambeg Pier (now Pier House). I have such happy memories and it is probably down to that, that I decided to buy a caravan on the Peninsula as I just love the area. The person who owned the house was a work colleague of my Fathers.  He did work for the Commander at Faslane Submarine base. In return my Dad's work colleague was given permission to go over to the base for diesel for his boat which my father did on many occasion while on holiday. Somehow I don't think that kind of arrangement would happen now - can you imagine?? In those days there weren't any police boats and the Peace Camp wasn't there either - how things have changed. Incidentally I never did get my bench or table back. I guess nowhere is immune from petty crime.

Hi Amansco,
I lived in Aitkrnshaw Cottage, Rahane from about 1939 to 1959, I worked with my dad as a house painter for the last four years we were there, we did work on a house at Mambeg, which had been bought by the Rev. Thomas Lowe who at the time was the army padre at the Faslane base just after the war, the base was later taken over by Metal Industries.
The house was later sold to a retired army officer whose name I can't remember, but he had a male nurse by the name of Willie Baird looking after him because of his injuries sustaine in the war.
