The Way Ahead

Since the formation of the Burgh Hall Committee in February 2000 the move towards transfer of ownership has steadily progressed through the various stages within Argyll and Bute Council. This process has generally been slower than anticipated and it now seems likely that it will not take place until several months into 2001.

The Burgh Hall Committee will use this extended time period to prepare for the eventual transfer of ownership. Particular areas of attention are as follows:

Lobby the Council to carry out building maintenance to reduce the ingress of rainwater throughout the winter months. (The Council have budgeted for this but appear reluctant to spend the money).
Survey/repair the heating system and in the longer term consider renewal.
Prepare grant applications in readiness for take over and investigate all possibilities of financial assistance.
Consider the needs of the Hall's costomers to improve facilities.
Seek out new custom and prepare for future requirements.

You Can Help

The Cove Burgh Hall will need the support of the local community. The Committee would greatly appreciate any help or suggestions. At this stage all possibilities are being considered and will help the project to gather its own momentum. Primarily members of the community must be prepared to give it a chance and use the facility more frequently than has been the case over recent years. This is ultimately what the whole project is about and hopefully, as facilities improve, it will become an increasingly worthwhile experience.
